Sato Speaks
Takuma Sato is one of official drivers of the Super Aguri team. And of course, everyone wanted to know about what he feels regarding the things that is happening to his team. I went over an interview on Sato and the first question I read was related to the banning of the team’s trucks on the paddocks of Istanbul Park. "I was simply very surprised when I got the news from my manager. I have no idea why this has happened as I understood that no decision has been made by Honda yet and that a decision will be made in the next few days about whether we will be able to race or not. I heard that FOM (Formula One Management) was told that we are not racing so they won’t let the trucks in, but I don't understand why they have been told this when no decision has been made yet,” said Sato. Oh, so that was the reason why the trucks were banned. And with the way he said it, the SAF1 team almost had the deal with the Magma Group.
The failure of the deal was so sudden that it literally left the whole management dumbfounded. Good thing there is the Weigl Group to rescue the SAF1 from its demise. Remember what Nick Fry said? That Weigl alone might not be able to support a team like Super Aguri. What if he’s wrong? What if the Weigl Group can save the Super Aguri? There was actually a lot of confidence in the way Sato said,” I met them at the Spanish GP and they have the great passion to get the team over the current difficulties. They do not seem to be scared by the challenge and in that way I would say that they fit our philosophy well and it would be a great partner for the team. It is a great compliment to the team that so soon after Magma failed, another investor has come in with a survival plan for the team. It just shows the team has a great reputation.”
