I’ve heard this issue from someone else and was shocked about it. I wasn’t able to watch Formula One last season, so, I really don’t know the whole story. The issue that I’m talking about is the McLaren “cheating” issue. Team McLaren cheated by using the 780-page file from Ferrari. Without a doubt, that is cheating. The points earned by the team were nullified. And the team were given a penalty of $100 million. It is not just the chance of a championship that has been taken away from them but their reputation was tarnished.
It is not really the end of the road for McLaren. The Formula One is starting soon and I’ve watched from one of the sports channel that they’re ready for the new season with their new set of cars. McLaren is a great team and I think they’ll be able to get over this issue. And I hope people too will get over it soon. But I cannot blame other people for thinking otherwise.
The good thing is, McLaren has a new season to recover and eventually win championships with Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen behind the steering wheels.
It would seem odd for a young lady like me to be into motor sports. I just love auto sports especially Formula One. I love the action as soon as the race starts. Of course, I have my list of favorite drivers on my mind and I’m lucky because they don’t disappoint me, well, sometimes they do but that seldom happens. Okay, enough of me. I’ll get down to business. But first of all, I’m going over the Constructor’s standing of the 2007 season of Formula One. Ferrari topped the standings with 204 points. The second place goes to BMW with 101 points. And the third placer is Renault earning 51 points. Now that the Formula One season is about to start, you can also mark your calendars with the race days.
Formula One starts on March 16, 2008 at Albert Park, Melbourne, Australia. The qualifying, as usual, starts before the race day. There are only 12 days left for constructors to make some final changes and finishing touches on their cars. So, racing buffs, time to gear up for the start of the most prestigious motor racing in the world – the Formula One.
For me cars are works of art. My fondness for cars began when I started watching Formula One. Formula One or just F1 is the most prestigious auto racing ever. At present, there are 11 teams racing for the top spot, namely: Ferrari, BMW, Renault, McLaren-Mercedes, Williams-Toyota, Red Bull-Renault, Toyota, STR-Ferrari, Honda, Super Aguri-Honda, & Spyker-Ferrari. These teams or constructors have two drivers. The drivers, even if they’re teammates, have to make it to final lap. This way they earn points, which could help them win the championship.
Speed is a crucial factor especially if it is the qualifying round. The driver who gets the fastest lap time is placed at the first. So, it is not a very ordinary race because it is the name of the constructor that is at stake. But speed is not actually only factor to win the race. The driver has to have the right skills and knowledge. The constructor too has to make strategic plans especially when it comes to pit stops.
The pit stop is the place where the cars are refueled and the tires changed. There is speed limit when entering the pit stop. Plus, the cars do not really need to speed up because they need to make a stop. The refueling and tire change on the pit stop takes place within a few seconds. The pit stop is actually one of the things that amaze me about auto racing. Every crew member has to be in place, quick, and effective in the assigned task or else the team will lose crucial time. And I also think that it is part of the strategic plan of the constructors. The faster the cars enter and leave the pit stop, the less time consumed.
The first thing that I’ve learned from watching Formula One is that every second counts.
