Indeed, both the Ferrari and the McLaren cars are faster than the BMW cars. When you look at the three cars from afar, you’ll notice that there isn’t much difference. But if you look closely on each car, you’ll see that the difference is on the small details of its aerodynamics. Apart from the engine, aerodynamics has played a major role in keeping a F1 car highly competent. As far as I can see it, both the Ferrari and the McLaren cars have an edge against the BMW team with regards to engine and aerodynamics technology. So, what’s kept the blue team in a much better position? The answer is the steadfastness of their cars and the persistence of their drivers. No other team has showed a lot of consistency than the BMW team and that resulted to Robert Kubica in number one and the blue team just three points behind the infamous Ferrari team.
As Kubica has said, defending his spot in the driver’s standing will not be easily at all. Who would find it easy anyway? If in each and every race, you know that you’re racing with Kimi Raikkonen, Felipe Massa, and Lewis Hamilton. Every race is as exciting as ever because of the ace drivers of Ferrari and McLaren. The Polish also said that you can only win the world championship if you’re the leader after 18 races. Certainly, being a leader after seven races is not enough. Besides there’s still 11 more races to go and a lot of things can happen during that span.
Kubica also expressed that he feels good being at the top of the standings and his team right behind the Ferrari team. But there’s still that worry with regards to defending his position and adding that the Ferrari and the BMW teams are not on their best during the previous races, saying that “we are missing a bit of performance to Ferrari and McLaren.” He sure does have a point there. We’re definitely missing a lot from two of the elite teams in F1 and that’s mostly because of the technical difficulties and the unfortunate events that take place during the race. One of the funny things that the Polish has said is that he found the Montreal race “boring.” Well, that’s his case since he was not the one caught under the red light during the pit lane. If Raikkonen and Hamilton were not caught in that blunder in the pit lane, the Canadian GP wouldn’t have felt boring for the Polish driver.
What I admire most about Kubica is he stays humble despite the reality that he’s on top of the race and could possibly bring his team the world championship. But it’s too early to say that he’s got it all in his bag because I’m pretty sure Raikkonen and Hamilton don’t like the idea of being next best thing to the BMW driver. I know, though that they’re happy with what their fellow F1 drivers have accomplished. But they’re definitely not willing to give up their chances of the being the world championship.
What I’m really beginning to like about this season in F1 is the fierce competition between the teams. There’s definitely a rivalry between Ferrari and McLaren. But with the additional threat from BMW, the perspective of having only two teams battling for the world championship has changed. And what I’m sure of is that in the upcoming races, the standings will change radically and that change involves not just the Ferrari and the McLaren teams but also the BMW team. So, have I got my podium finishers? Hmmm. I haven’t got a clue which to choose for the next French GP.
The remarkable win of Robert Kubica at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve gave me a bit of a shock. It wasn’t as if I wasn’t expecting him to win. I know he can win but not at the first one to finish the race. The two Formula 1 drivers that I wished to win on the Canadian GP was no where to be found on the top three and when I looked down at the list, there they were. Next to their names was the word accident and I was like, “No way! The two of them had an accident?” I think I was just expecting the two ace drivers of F1 to battle head to head in Montreal. The race as Raikkonen said could’ve been his if Hamilton didn’t crash onto his car on the pit lane. And that accident happened because the McLaren driver didn’t see the red light up. Oh well. Accidents happen and sad to say, the top two drivers of F1 have experienced it in a race that radically altered their stand in the competition.
And even with Kubica’s win in Montreal, Mario Theissen – boss of the BMW team, says the status of their two drivers stays the same. Nick Heidfeld won’t be called the number two and Kubica won’t be given the number one status. I think the idea is good! Treating everybody fairly will definitely make the relationship between the two drivers better.
A maiden win is what you call the first-ever win of a driver. Robert Kubica just got his maiden in Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on the previous Canadian GP. Kubica has showed that consistency pays off and it did. With the unfortunate event that happened in the pit lane, Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen was eliminated from the race. This left the Polish driver of BMW to finish the race first. Felipe Massa was not even close to being a threat to Kubica and finished in fourth. Aside from me, who’s definitely witnessed the emergence of a threat in Kubica, Hamilton is also convinced that the BMW driver is in search for a first world champion just like him.
Kubica is still way behind Hamilton when it comes to wins. But with his level of performance in each race, he could surpass the ace McLaren driver. When Hamilton was asked about Kubica being a threat, he indirectly stated that the Polish indeed poses a threat to him and his team. He said that he’s always thought of Kubica as a title contender since the beginning of the season. Does this mean his found his match? When you come to think of it, the level of efficiency between the two drivers is very different. Hamilton is about guts and skills, which is very extraordinary for someone who’s just fresh from his rookie years. Kubica, on the other hand, also possess those qualities but applies them in a very different level, which may not be the same as Hamilton’s. What set the BMW driver to Hamilton is his consistency on each and every race. With what Hamilton has said, I think he’s probably placed Kubica on his list that already consists of Raikkonen and Massa.
As I’ve written on one of my previous posts, expect the unexpected. And so, the unexpected occurred in Montreal. Well, it’s not that I’m not expecting BMW’s Robert Kubica to perform so well, given that he’s the third in the grid. It’s just that, well, I was kind of wanting McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen to execute well during the Canadian GP. I guess luck was way out of reach from the two ace drivers of Formula 1. Kubica stood holding the first place trophy at the podium, standing right next to him was teammate Nick Heidfeld, who was unexpectedly followed by Red Bull's David Coulthard. Where were Hamilton and Raikkonen? Well, they were no where to be found due to an accident, which I’m going to talk about that later on.
Kubica’s maiden win in Circuit Gilles Villeneuve positions him on top of the driver’s standings. Only four behind him are Hamilton and Felipe Massa, who was also followed by Raikkonen. Heidfeld, though he won second in Montreal still fell short in fifth place but that also puts him in a secure place right on top of Heikki Kovalainen. The constructor’s standings showed a lot of change maybe not in position but in points. The McLaren team has remarkably fallen way behind Ferrari and BMW. And despite the red team staying on top, the blue team remains to be a threat with only three points behind.
The BMW team has been very consistent on the previous races and with this they could win the world championship. But Willy Rampf, the team’s technical director, said that his team doesn’t really think much about the odds of achieving the championship and said that he’s proud of what the team has achieved in Montreal. Now, BMW is starting to concentrate on the upcoming Grand Prix de France that’ll take place in Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours. The humility that the team and its drivers are showing are beginning to pay off and it’s happening at the right time. I say my cheers to the BMW team for their Canadian GP victory.
“Although I didn't collect any points in the last race, thus losing the lead in the championships, it's not the end of the world. Last year I was in a much poorer situation. Now we have to go to Montreal con and pay back,” said Kimi Raikkonen. That’s the spirit! He’s said it but let’s just see what happens this Sunday after he’s raced in Montreal. I just don’t know who among the two ace drivers of Ferrari will top the Canadian GP. Raikkonen is great but Felipe Massa has proven that he’s a lot more consistent when it comes to performance. That was proven after Massa hit the third place while Raikkonen held on for the ninth place.
The Canadian GP is only a few days away and someone’s definitely going to make a comeback. I still haven’t figured out who I’m going to put as my top podium finishers. But I have these deductions that the Ferrari team will regain their spot in first and the McLaren team will be in second, although, I really shouldn’t be counting the BMW team out, right? This Sunday’s race is definitely going to be thrilling with Raikkonen prepared to come back after that disappointing race in Monaco and Hamilton trying to protect his lead while Robert Kubica continues to hang on among the top spot both in the driver’s and the constructor’s standings.
I’m not a big fan of Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. I can’t even remember how the circuit looks like. Oh well, I can’t do anything about it anyway. So, after the Formula 1 celebrated the first victory of Lewis Hamilton in Monte Carlo, the drivers are back into action. But now, they’re racing in less demanding circuit the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada. I’m not saying that the circuit in Canada isn’t great. Don’t get me wrong, okay. I’m merely comparing the one in Monte Carlo to the one in Montreal. Last season’s victor was Lewis Hamilton, who was having a great rookie year. And this year, he’s boldly expressed that he’s determined to try his best to win each and every race. But I don’t think it is possible. There’s just a lot stumbling blocks, namely: Kimi Raikkonen, Felipe Massa, and Robert Kubica. Should I still be counting in Fernando Alonso? I guess I should, he’s the previous Canadian GP champion anyway before Hamilton took it from him last season.
But did you know who got the most win in Circuit Gilles Villeneuve? If you guessed Michael Schumacher, you’re right. Schumacher has the most wins in Montreal. Imagine having seven wins, he’s actually surpassed Nelson Piquet, Jacky Ickx, Jackie Stewart, Alan Jones, and Ayrton Senna. If Hamilton wins this season’s Canadian GP, he’ll definitely be standing in line with Ickx, Stewart, Jones, and Senna, who all had two wins apiece.
In the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, you’ll also find the Wall of Champions. This is actually no ordinary wall because this is the wall where infamous racers have crashed. Among the World Champions that have crashed on the Wall of Champions were Damon Hill and Schumacher. Other crashes on the final corner of the circuit also include Jacque Villeneueve, Nico Rosberg, and Juan Pablo Montoya. I just hope Hamilton doesn’t crash during race day because it’ll definitely ruin his chances. He definitely has a lead to protect especially against the infamous Ferrari team.
I’m pretty sure the Ferrari team has done a lot of preparations for the upcoming Canadian GP. Remember the team has won several times on that same circuit. And with Raikkonen’s disappointing race, he’s definitely going to make a comeback. But hey, I’m not giving out my podium finishers yet. I still have a lot of thinking to do after my previous podium finishers got busted on the previous race. I almost got it right; I just missed out on Massa. What I’m pretty sure is that the town will be painted in red.
Aside from Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen and McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton, I’ve always admired the tenacity of BMW’s Robert Kubica. He’s a young and a highly skilled Formula 1 driver. He can actually race with the toughest and ends up victorious. What proved him to be a better driver than his previous F1 seasons was his flawless Monaco GP race. Though he didn’t win the race, he was second best to Hamilton at the podium and next to him was Ferrari’s Felipe Massa. His competitive nature is what makes him one of the best F1 drivers this season. And if he stays consistent in his races, the competition between Ferrari and McLaren will be broken and there’ll be three teams vying for the world championship.
When asked about how he was able to improve this season? Kubica answered that he hasn’t improved that much as a driver. What helped improve his performance this season was his BMW car. His BMW car definitely made it easier for him to win especially in Circuit de Monaco, where he said was much harder to concentrate. When asked about BMW’s preparation for next week’s race in Montreal, he revealed that his team has prepared a special medium downforce package that’ll allow the BMW cars to adapt well with the medium downforce condition Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
At last, Lewis Hamilton got his deepest wish and that is to win a grand prix. Win not as the second or the third, but the first to finish the race. The victory in Monaco gave Hamilton the lead against Ferrari’s ace Kimi Raikkonen, who finished the race in 10th place. The first win for Hamilton also gave McLaren a 1-point against the BMW team but is still 16 points behind the Ferrari team. He was followed by BMW’s Robert Kubica, who presently less than four points behind Hamilton, Raikkonen, and Felipe Massa. Just imagine how tough Formula 1 is this season. I honestly expected Raikkonen to give his all Circuit de Monaco but I guess it wasn’t enough to get him a win but never fear Ferrari aficionados; the team still has another driver named Massa to pull some win. And Massa did, getting the third spot with a 4-second difference from Hamilton.
After the Monaco GP, the constructor’s standings have changed. Ferrari is still on top with secured 16-point lead from McLaren, which is now on the second spot. The black and grey team is followed by BMW. Now, this is where the competition gets tougher. The top three teams are now on their respective places but none have any plans to give up. Just take a look at the driver’s standings. The top four drivers are just a few points behind each other. This is definitely going to be a really exciting season for all F1 teams and for everybody who loves F1. It’s definitely not going to be easy for Ferrari, if Hamilton and Kubica to continuously perform well consistently.
The qualifying race is about to start very soon and the result will determine who has a shot in being number one. So, does Ferrari feel any pressure at all? Team Ferrari finished at the top during the Spanish GP. That was quite expected since Felipe Massa already won in Barcelona last season. Plus, Ferrari’s triumph in Barcelona gave them the lead on both the driver’s and the constructor’s standings. But does the team feel pressure now that the midseason is about to start? I don’t think so. Ferrari is as confident as ever in winning the next GP, which will take place on one of their favorite circuits - the Istanbul Park Circuit. This confidence is probably brought by the team’s success during in Turkey for the past three seasons. “It’s a terrific circuit, demanding on the cars, but great fun to drive,” said Kimi Raikkonen.
But Ferrari is not the only team that is confident about their cars for the Turkish GP. McLaren and BMW are some of the persistent teams that are also confident in racing well in Istanbul. For the McLaren team, there is Lewis Hamilton, who is just nine points behind the Ferrari team. Hamilton’s teammate, Heikki Kovalainen, has never been so ready to race which is a bit scary because of his determination after a terrible race crash in Barcelona. As for the BMW team, you have the talented Robert Kubica. However, I don’t think BMW teammate Nick Heidfeld shares the same enthusiasm his team has. He actually thinks that Ferrari will remain at the forefront of the pack after the Turkish GP. I guess he’s referring to the numbers because no matter how you try to add 10 points to the BMW team and to their two drivers, Ferrari will still have the lead. But if both Ferrari cars failed to finish the race that is the time when the standings will drastically change.
Honestly, when you watch a F1 race, every team is almost equal when it comes to speed. Ferrari simply tried to protect their lead from championship-thirsty teams and just tried to stay ahead of the pack. If Ferrari continues to stay on top, the world championship isn’t going to be that hard to reach.
Enough of the Super Aguri talk let us talk about the upcoming Turkish GP and the chances of Ferrari getting the win. Last season’s winner was Felipe Massa, who also got the pole position. Kimi Raikkonen, on the other hand, got the fastest lap. With these results in mind, I think the Ferrari team has a great chance of winning in Istanbul. But who knows, Lewis Hamilton wakes up during race day with confidence and a mindset to win the whole race. If Hamilton gets pole position, the entire Ferrari team should be a little scared. He's just one determined lad. And the fact that Hamilton is not the only threat that awaits in Turkey should scare the team a bit. Remember to count in teammate Heikki Kovalainen who just got from an accident in Barcelona. Count in Robert Kubica, as well.
There are still 14 grand prix to go, including the Turkish GP, and it is indeed too early to think about the world champion. A lot can happen during these 14 races. Who knows another accident like that of Kovalainen could happen again or another team withdraws from F1. Maybe we should start out guessing when the season only has three more grand prix to go. But as of now, we’ll just have to go with the flow.
